Most Common Youth Sports Injuries | Sports Chiropractor in West Omaha, NE
Hi, I’m Dr. Joel Marley with Family First Chiropractic and I’m here to talk about the three most common youth sports injuries, specifically with soccer players. Now there’s 30 million children participating in organized leagues of football and gymnastics and baseball. And the occurrence of injuries has now exceeded infectious disease, so this is a big deal!
Common Soccer Injuries
Now soccer players, if you’re watching this, you’ve probably rolled your ankle before and you’ve probably had a sprain or strain. And if it moved that far to sprain or to strain, that means the alignment should be assessed. So you have an assessment on the alignment for healing and to repair damage, but also for performance. The second one, quads. Quads are the muscles that attach from your hip all the way down to your kneecap. They allow you to kick, they allow you to propel forward, they allow you to run when they get weak from running forward. This all then creates a shearing force that can set yourself up for an injury to the ACL, PCL, maybe meniscus. So by having stronger quads, you can avoid knee injuries. The third is from heading the ball. It’s going to happen by creating a stress on the cervical spine. One way or the other, to direct the ball towards a goal or towards, it causes trauma to the spine. Whether it’s a micro or maybe even a macro trauma, those traumas can add up together overtime.
So it’s wise to have these young athletes that are participating in soccer to get checked! I’m Dr. Joel Marley with Family First Chiropractic and I hope this helps prevent more injuries to the young adult population!
