Does This Headache Story Sound Familiar?
I had been suffering from headaches and neck pain in a way that I felt like I was developing migraines, but just wrote it off as part of life. I had them so frequently I took to always carrying either a bottle of ibuprofen or Tylenol with me in my purse. I annoyed coworkers by shutting the window shades at work all the time because I just couldn’t stand all the sunlight. After work, I really had no desire to do anything; I just wanted to go home and nap because I had a headache.
What’s more interesting to note is that Alex, the patient that told us this story about her headaches, also told us: I didn’t really have any aches and pains, nor did I really have much motivation to do something for my health. No aches or pains, but daily headaches that made it miserable to live life… sounds like a problem to me!
Headache Relief With Chiropractic Care
As an RN, Alex had some initial hesitations about pursuing chiropractic care for helping with her headaches. She was more familiar with a medically based approach to treating headaches (primarily the use of OTC and prescription medications). But since medications hadn’t provided enough relief, Alex took a chance and started getting her spine checked and adjusted regularly.
The good news for anyone suffering with headaches is that headaches don’t have to be an ongoing occurrence in your life. Once you can pinpoint the cause of your headaches, you can make a plan for how to reduce or eliminate them from your life. Alex was able to greatly reduce her headache frequency and duration by committing to regular chiropractic care, doing home exercises, and making a few easy life changes to reduce the physical and mental stress from her job. She started to view the new habits she was building as an investment in her life and health.
Maybe this isn’t your story, but I’d be willing to bet that you probably know at least one person whose headaches are so intense that they have started to interfere with either their personal or professional life. Nearly 45 million Americans report that they experience headaches. This works out to about 1 in 6 people in our country dealing with headaches. That’s a lot of people!
There are several different types of headaches. The type of headache you have can vary depending on the specific cause of your headache. If you want to learn more about types and causes of headaches, be sure to check out our Headaches page.
Here at Family First Chiropractic, we hear stories just like Alex’s every day.
