Hi there, I’m Dr. Jeremiah Sample with Family First Chiropractic. Today, I want to share with you how walking can benefit your health and fitness. Off-script isn’t normally my style, but the numbers are just so good on walking that I pulled some data off of my phone.

Health Benefits of Walking

According to BetterHealth.gov.au, a daily walk of just 30 minutes can:

According to the American Heart Association, each week, walking briskly for at least 150 minutes can improve how well you think, feel, and sleep.

Tips for Walking

Streets and sidewalks in the U.S. are quite often slanted to allow for drainage runoff. When walking this can mean that if you change sides of the street, you may be walking on a slope that puts uneven pressure on your legs. Balance the following:

Walking down the same sidewalk in both directions: Walk one way with one leg towards the street and the other towards the lawn. Then turn around and walk back with the opposite leg facing the street. This maintains balance and can prevent low back problems.
