Natural Scoliosis Relief with Chiropractic Care | Chiropractor for Scoliosis in West Omaha, NE
Hi, I’m Dr. Joel Marley with Family First Chiropractic, and today I want to discuss how we assist patients with scoliosis, a 3D spinal deformity characterized by a minimum of 10 degrees of lateral bending often accompanied by rotation of the spinal vertebrae. Scoliosis can alter appearances, cause pain, and decrease quality of life.
Understanding the Why Behind Scoliosis
The first question we often explore is “why?” Why would the body start to lean away, thus causing scoliosis? This leaning away from nerve pressure, known as subluxation, occurs when there’s nerve irritation. The body then creates a shift and compensation to try to relieve that nerve pressure. Consider this analogy: if you place your hand on a hot stove, the immediate reaction is to pull away quickly to avoid pain. Similarly, internal nerve irritation from shifts or misalignments in the spine can cause inflammation and lead the body to lean away to avoid discomfort. As this compensation continues, it can lead the body to adopt an S-shaped curvature.
Challenges in Treating Scoliosis
One of the significant challenges in addressing scoliosis is detection. Often, medical professionals overlook this condition until it becomes painful or debilitating and visibly affects one’s appearance. At this stage, interventions might include surgery or braces, among other modalities, to correct or mitigate the issue. However, these solutions often come after the condition has become more complex, harder to fix, and more costly to manage.
The Role of Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care offers a proactive approach by removing nerve interference and improving both postural and structural shifts within the body. This form of care has a proven track record of enhancing nerve function and has shown significant results in improving overall function for those with scoliosis.
