Bump, Set, and Spike the Competition | Chiropractor for Athletes in West Omaha, NE
Hey there, I’m Dr. Jeremiah Sample from Family First Chiropractic. I’m joined today by my lovely daughter, Evelyn. We’re going to talk about volleyball and important stretches to do while playing.
Warm-Up and Game Stance
Volleyball is played by up to 7 million Americans each year. Before you start, it’s crucial to warm up to get your blood flowing. Once you’re in the game, be mindful of your stance. Many players tend to adopt a relaxed stance, which can lead to cold muscles.
In-Game Stretches
- Athletic Stance and Squats: Maintain a good athletic stance with your feet about shoulder-width apart and your arms loose. Perform simple squats to keep your leg muscles and calves activated. This will help prepare you for jumps, spikes, and sets.
- Dynamic Stretching: Between points, drop into a position similar to a downward dog and transition into an upward dog. This helps keep your spine flexible and increases blood flow to your arm muscles.
